    WHAT IS A TT BIKE?

A Time trial bike is above anything else aerodynamic, they’re about finding that all-important, unique design that gives you the performance edge over your rivals. The ever-evolving search for the perfect aerodynamic design, to this end many hours of painstaking research are carried out to find the optimal design. This is followed by many hours of tests within wind tunnels and in real world scenarios to monitor efficiency and power output. Importantly a tt bike must conform to UCI regulations if it is to be used in internationally sanctioned events. The overall objective of such time-consuming testing is to find a design that cuts through the air and creates as little drag as possible. This allows the rider to transfer more of the watts generated directly through to the road with as little wasted power as possible. To assist with this a time trial bike will have large bulky tubing profiles. Each tube will be shaped into an aerofoil profile which helps to reduce resistance and creates less drag. The geometry of a time trial bike places the rider in a very aggressive flat backed position to reduce their head on profile for better aerodynamic performance. To accomplish this the design will employ a short head tube and top tube. This allows the rider to stretch out along the aero bars armrests.
